Weaver Lake (Denham’s Trail)

Source: Club Tread. The Denham’s Trail is a loop trail around the shore of Weaver Lake, located near Harrison Mills. Starting at the lake’s day-use area, walk across the bridge over the lake’s outlet creek and look for the signed trailhead. The first portion of the trail is well maintained and curves it’s way along the lakeshore, passing the occasional fishing spot. On the north side of the lake there is a new group campsite with a shelter, tables, stove, firewood and campsites.

Expect some deadfall along the route – although the trail is maintained, it is done so on an intermittent basis. After about 2 km of making your way around the lake, the trail will begin to become every so slightly overgrown and enter a marshy area. Some uprooted trees have landed on the trail – watch for a short, flagged bypass around the trees and back on to the original route. Once past the swampy area, the trail crosses a small half-collapsed bridge and climbs up about 70 meters to the top of a rock bluff and viewpoint. The bluff is just before the halfway mark and makes for a great point to relax and have a snack before completing the circuit.

Past the bluffs, the trail makes it’s way through a slightly more moody forest with endless numbers of moss and lichen covered trees. The trail keeps itself slightly in-land from the lake during this section in an attempt to avoid the lake’s marshy north-west shore. Fortunately, logging operations have not interfered with the trail and as of January 2013 it remains in a natural state. The final kilometer of trail loops around the lake’s south-east shore, eventually emerging behind a small campsite area to complete the loop.
