Campbell Lake Trail (Harrison Grind)

DIFFICULTY: Difficult   DISTANCE: 10KM RETURN TIME: 5-6 HOURS

Known as the Harrison Grind by locals this hike climbs up Agassiz mountain and takes you through a bit of everything. The trail starts by following a gravel road up to Harrison Hot Springs water reservoir. From there, an old logging road, that is more of a creek bed now, takes you up to a path cut under some power line towers that run beside a series of granite bluffs. Once past this area, you are into a serious climb up the mountain through forest and rock. After a few hours, you will find yourself at the “helicopter pad” supposedly once used during logging of this mountain. Nothing remains of the pad but the clearing provides a great view of Harrison Lake. From here the remainder of the hike is pretty much level as you head west towards Campbell lake. This is a wonderful little lake populated mostly by salamanders.  Warning: this is a challenging hike and the trail is not always well maintained and so fallen trees and overgrown sections need to be transversed.  The trail is generally well marked but new routes are often added by over-enthusiastic hikers.  Make sure you always keep an eye on trail makers to ensure you don’t get lost.  Fore more details go to All Trails Campbell Lake Trail
