Bird Watching

The Fraser Valley Bird Trail is located in one of the province’s richest birding regions. Following the flow of the Fraser River, it travels from the southern end of Harrison Lake westward through Chilliwack, Abbotsford and the Township of Langley. Birders are treated to more than 200 distinct species that make their journey along the Pacific Flyaway to perch on local forest canopies and swim across our wetlands, marshes, lakes and streams.

Enjoy beautiful riverside strolls watching waterbirds, owls, woodpeckers, plenty of songbirds and bald eagles flying overhead or feasting on salmon. Hotspots include the Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park—home to wood ducks, northern pintails, swallows, yellow warblers, owls, osprey and many more. The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is nearby in Chilliwack. You may also catch glimpses of colourful plumage at the Willband Creek Park urban wetland in Abbotsford, Derby Reach Regional Park in Langley and the Lhá:lt/Harrison-Chehalis Wildlife Management Area along the Harrison River.
