Harrison River Valley

The Wild of the Fraser Valley

The vast area known as the Harrison River Valley encompasses Agassiz-Kent, Harrison Mills and Harrison Hot Springs—where you’ll also find inviting geothermally heated pools. The season of the wild arrives annually with bald eagles and salmon migrating back to the area. It’s a stunning time of year when you can marvel at the beauty of nature and watch the local wildlife in their natural habitat. The breathtaking landscape lies within snow-capped mountain peaks with a family-friendly ski hill, contrasted by rich agricultural land, pristine beaches, and the turquoise waters of area lakes, rivers, and, of course, hot springs. Visitors will be tempted by mouth-watering dining at diverse restaurants and cafes, incredible artisanal creations, and world-class events. There’s something for everyone just up the road.

Before the name Harrison…

Harrison Dots

Well before this territory was ever referenced as the Harrison River Valley, it was known by its Halq’eméylem name, S’ólh Téméxw, meaning “our land” or “our world.”

For us, that name serves as a reminder that our organization stems from a lineage of settlers and visitors to this area, the traditional, ancestral land that was first home to the Stó:lō (people of the river) and associated tribes, in particular the Sts’ailes, Seabird Island, Sq’éwqel, Sq’ewá:lxw, Cheam, Xax’tsa, Leq’a:mel, Samahquam, Sq’ewlets, and Skatin peoples.

As settlers and visitors, we therefore acknowledge our duty to treat this land and its first people with the utmost respect and gratitude. When you visit, we hope you’ll show that same respect and encourage those who come after you to do likewise.

Harrison Drawing Of A Sasquatch

Famous for... the Sasquatch!

his mythical bi-pedal mammal of exceptional size (sometimes reaching 14 feet) with great strength and reddish hair covering its entire body is legendary in the Harrison River Valley. Believed to be a mispronunciation of the Sts’ailes First Nation’s word, ‘Sasq’ets’, meaning ‘hairy man’, the Sasquatch has occupied a unique niche in the oral traditions of the First Nations communities of Harrison Lake and Harrison River for centuries.
